Registration has opened

We have opened registration for the Foundations and Frontiers of Physics Education Research meeting to be held this summer, June 15 to June 19, in Bar Harbor, ME.

Foundations and Frontiers of Physics Education Research is a conference venue for specialists who are active researchers in the field of physics education. This intensive week-long residential meeting provides a forum for examining and articulating the current state of the field, exploring future directions, and discussing ways to pursue the most promising avenues for future research.

The conference features a series of plenary lectures given by established and emerging leaders in PER. Each will address the theme of Foundations and Frontiers by synthesizing major accomplishments in the field and/or speculating on the directions they consider especially important and promising. Afternoons will be devoted to unscheduled time for informal discussions. Evening sessions will include working groups on subjects of community-wide interest, topical groups for specific research issues, and a contributed poster session. The goal of the conference is to foster the type of direct and intense discussion possible in a small residential meeting of specialists.

Registration fees are:

* $425 for faculty, research scientists, and post docs (Fees are lowered for all participants through the generous support of the National Science Foundation.)
* $175 for graduate students (Graduate student fees are lowered further through the generous support of the American Physical Society. The first 12 graduate students to register receive this lowered rate; later registrations are at the full rate.)

Registration fees include:

* Transportation to and from Bangor International Airport on Sunday, Jun 14, and Saturday, Jun 20.
* Dormitory campus housing (in shared dorm rooms) from Sunday night through Saturday morning
* Breakfast on weekdays (i.e., not including Saturday)
* Coffee/tea break including muffins, cookies, etc. daily
* Lunch daily
* One banquet dinner at Bar Harbor Lobster Bakes to start the conference (vegetarian options exist)
* One sunset cruise to end the conference

Registration set to open

Registration for the June meeting in Bar Harbor is set to open. Details will be posted online as soon as we update information with UMaine Conference Services (who are taking care of registration).

We are pleased to receive financial support from the National Science Foundation, helping lower registration costs for all participants; pay registration costs for plenary speakers, targeted session organizers, and working group leaders; and support the travel costs of plenary speakers. This very generous support makes it much easier for us to hold this meeting, and we thank the National Science Foundation! Registration costs for participants will be $425.

We are also happy to announce that the American Physical Society is helping us lower registration costs for graduate students to attend the meeting. Through the combined support of the NSF and APS, graduate students will pay only $125 for their registration costs.

UPDATE: To support more graduate students than in past years, we have changed graduate student registration to $175, allowing 12 rather than 10 students to attend the meeting at a lowered rate.
